i got this because i was testing the kindle app on my new iphone. in regards to the kindle app- i love it, and highly recommend that. this book is great, its not at all biographical, more of an insight into Beethoven's personality, because it is a compilation of things he's said (either from accounts of friends, or straight out of his personal diaries, and letters to others). some of them are fairly out of context and seem to not make all that much sense, but i'd say 85% of them held some significance. some are downright funny, others show his clever side, others show the depressed psycho lunatic side of him. highly recommended for beethoven lovers that are interested in his quirky and intriguing personality.Product details

This is a great book with relevant information. A good source in the attepmt to reconstruct the character and genius of Beethoven. A truly great man who faced with stoicism the challenges life imposed on him.
This book is totally unscholarly, has not even mention name of author! Nice cover picture but nothing inside. It has completely outdated information.
I took one star off because It's not really a book. It's the dimensions and thickness of a magazine (about 78 pages) just with heavier stock paper. Still a good value though.
This book is short but there are some pearls of wisdom in it. If you only buy one book on Beethoven, then this will give you a lot of great stuff, including some insight into becoming a better musician - he mentioned training your ear trumpets to a high degree. And also advice on overcoming adversity.

Expecting little more than a 2 star reading, I find myself now, half way through the writing....and suggest that the reader stay with it to the end.. It is, for sure, interesting reading..His life , his contemporaries, his foibles.. his acceptance due to his musical genius in spite of, or perhaps because of his less than the acceptable attire, his tempermental attitude, and his rather abrupt interest in the affairs of man
replacing the enjoyment he felt from the monies that were heaped upon him by a worshiping audience.... Quite the guy, this Ludvig.
When I got this book I thought this would be a biography, something similar to auto biography of Franklin that I recently read and thoroughly enjoyed. However I was a bit disappointed. This book is not a biography, it is a series of quotations attributed to Beethoven or portions of writing by others that Beethoven copied in his hand into his notebooks presumably because the words had a significant meaning to him.
The quotations provide an interesting insight into Beethoven obsessions, but it is not like Franklin's auto biography, a book that you find hard to put down. I found it a bit difficult to get through.
